Saint John’s Co-Cathedral – tickets by the door The interior of the church is considered to be one of the finest examples of high Baroque architecture in Europe

Saint John’s Co-Cathedral wbsite

The painting The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist (1608) by Caravaggio (1571–1610) is the most famous work in the church. Considered one of his masterpieces, it is the largest canvas he ever painted and the only one he signed. The painting is displayed in the Oratory for which it was originally commissioned. Restored in Florence in the late 1990s, it showcases one of Caravaggio’s most striking uses of chiaroscuro, with a dramatic circle of light illuminating the scene of Saint John’s execution at Salome’s request. The Oratory also houses Caravaggio’s Saint Jerome Writing (1607–1608).

Hal Saflieni Hypogeum

"The Hypogeum is thought to have been a sanctuary and necropolis, with the estimated remains of more than 7,000 people documented by archeologists" It’s a fascinating place to visit—over 5,000 years old! The history of its discovery is particularly intriguing. I highly recommend reading more about it here: Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum – Wikipedia

Since only a limited number of visitors are allowed each day, reserve the tickets before going to Malta.

Objects and human skulls recovered from the site can be seen in National Museum of Archeology in Valletta.
