About this site

The best time to travel seems to be when you're young, living with your parents, without work commitments or anyone depending on you. It allows you to choose the cheapest flights, travel during the best season for your destination, and — most importantly — spend as much time as you need to see everything you want.

In most cases, though, it doesn’t work out that way — and it wasn’t like that for us either. The moment we could afford plane tickets, we were already renting a house, working full time, and caring for our baby - a cat Mina. The longest holiday we could manage in one trip was three weeks. Later, traveling also involved taking our cat to my parents’ place and picking her up afterward.

That’s why - freetime travellers — always dependent on work schedules and other responsibilities, we had to fit our travel plans into the "free time" we had.

Our flights weren’t the cheapest as we avoided long layovers, since every hour in transit meant less time to explore our destination. The "free time" often meant traveling during the Christmas and New Year period, and weekends, when prices for flights, car rentals, and accommodation are usually at their highest.

Still, it can be done — and you don’t need to spend a fortune. For us, the biggest cost are usually the flights. Everything else can be adjusted to fit the budget.

Our main interests are nature, wildlife, and indigenous cultures.

We try to travel responsibly and raise awareness about animal exploitation in tourism, as well as the environmental damage caused by overdevelopment. We support local communities by staying in local homes, buying local food, and helping animal rescue initiatives.

The main reason for creating this website is to document our travels, inspire others, share useful tips and highlight places that aren't featured on typical tourist websites.
